Most of Australia (sorry Victoria and Tassie) experience relatively mild winters, especially the further north you go. However there is one thing most of the country shares with its wintery conditions and that is the wind.
While the wind doesn’t stay around for long, the problem is, it doesn’t let you know it’s coming until you’ve already dressed for the day ahead and left home, which can lead to the wind potentially ruining your look and damaging your hair.
Here are some tips for protecting your hair and style just in case a blustery westerly wind blows into your day.
1. Sulphate-free shampoo
We’ve talked before about the benefits of sulphate-free shampoo. Sulfate can leave your hair vulnerable to damage as it strips away beneficial oils.
2. Conditioner
Conditioner has also been a repeat topic on our blog because it does so much for keeping your hair healthy. Seek one that will help retain moisture in your hair (such as soy protein and pantheon ingredients) and ask your hair stylist as to a conditioner that best suits your hair type.
3. Turn down the heat
We all love a long hot shower in winter, but try to keep the temperature of the water on your scalp to a mild warmth. This will protect the skin on your scalp and allow for moisture from the scalp to your hair.
4. Hair oil
A great hair oil not only keeps your style holding on overnight, but it is a great day time moisturiser if it is dry and cold and windy! Your hair stylist will be able to recommend one that’s right for you.
5. Cover Up
Winter lets us extend our accessorising with gloves, hats and scarves, but be aware! Some fabrics can create static, especially on a windy day, and this all leads to frizz. Always consider a hat that’s silk lined, or wrap your hair in your favourite silk scarf and then top with a cute beret or hat.
Until next month!
